The New Server is in Build

I just want to inform those of you wondering when the site might be back that our Server is currently in the build process. Our host does things custom, which in the end might take a bit more time. As for when we might return, I am not in the business of mindless speculation, as such speculation only leads to frustration when the projected date of return is missed. There will be a lot of things that need to be completed, such as installing the necessary software to make the server run and then move the site over (the latter of which should be quicker since we’re already on this host).

I imagine some of you might be getting antsy and worried that this site is nothing but smoke and mirrors for the downfall of RF Generation. Ha. We’re not dead. Too many people have but their heart and soul into the site for it just to go poof. So, take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy the other things in life that don’t involve RF Generation. Play a video game. Go to a thrift store. Enjoy the weather. We’ll be back, and once we are you’ll have all the RF Generation you can want.

In case you are wondering if we’ll do anything to inform you that we’re back, we intend on sending out a mass email to our registered members once we’re back. Of those, I imagine 200 or so will bounce back because people used invalid emails. (Moral, update your email once we’re back) Don’t worry, if you’re a registered member, we’ll let you know of our return, or… you could just keep visiting RF Generation until the site is back. If it’s back, you’ll see the real site; otherwise, you’ll see this emergency broadcast.

Going to a dedicated server takes some effort. Those of you who frequent one of our affiliates may be aware of the fun associated with growth. But, in the end, everything works out. We can add new features, and in the process we will further cement our place as THE classic and modern video games database. Until next time, keep it tuned to channel three.

New Server

We’ve begun the process of getting a new server. It’ll set us back $90 a month. Exciting, and expensive times. Stay tuned for future developments and estimations for our real site’s return!

Servers and Cost

Dedicated Servers are Expensive. Just to give you an idea of just how expensive they are, we got a quote from our current host for the cheapest server he has available. It costs $102 / month. That’s a bit much for us, and is a bit on the mind numbing side.

So, you (the RF Generation Community) need to help us figure out what we need. Is the site worth $102 / month, or are there better deals out there? Should we find a place that lets us build a server and then just rent rackspace / bandwidth? The upfront costs would be more, but in the long run it would decrease in costs. The truth is that we’re really wary of $102 / month, and we want to see what you guys think. We need some solution, but we want to make sure that we have the best solution.
