We’re trying really, really hard to come back online

Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that we’re trying very hard to come back online. Our host has run into some issues with setup and we are working diligently to rectify the situation and get the site running as soon as possible. At this time, I can only ask for your continued patience, and we hope to be back very soon.

    Hey David.

Sorry for my delayed response in replying to posts on this subject – my internet has been down since last Wednesday.

I don’t want to see adds on the site – I don’t think anyone of use want that. I’ll take care of one month of hosting at $100 to assist. Send me an email with Paypal details to proceed. I am glad that a new server was decided upon and RFG will be able to return in full form, plus room for growth down the road.

As you know, I have server space that I would be happy to share for the time being while the new server is being set up – even if just for a 404 error page. Like others, I only found this blog through google. Drop me a line if you want me to set you up for access for the server space. It is the least I could do since you have done the same for me in the past.

Thanks for your efforts, and Storm’s, et al, in your efforts in bringing back the site we love.

    Terry

I am hoping that enough people donate where large donations from a single person are unnecessary. We shall see how that goes.

We had rfgeneration.com pointing to this website. The actual site was supposed to be up on Monday, but unforeseen circumstances keep the site from returning. We keep hoping it can be fixed by the end of day X, but so far it just hasn’t worked out. Sigh.

Thanks for the reply. With no current gateway for donations at this time, please post Paypal instructions for those that would like to assist at the current time.

I think it’ll be easy to get ppl to donate if you supply an incentive… ?

And in a completely unrelated question: what is the font used for the title of this blog?

I hope so too traderjake. If it’s $90 a month, $1080 a year if 400 members would donate a one time donation for the year of $2.70 it would pay for the site for the year.

@dotDarkCloud: I would think keeping the site around would be incentive enough but I made a suggestion of having a donor side bar that would display donors names.

I would love to see the site paid for by donors, but I don’t think 400 people are going to donate. Before the site went down, there were 11 people with the Donor rank, plus the donations from staff, I’d estimate about 20 people donated. I think the cost is going to come from maybe 50 users now, which is still cheap for how great the site is at a little over $20/person for the year.

I thought of a possibly good idea, how about RFG start an eBay store, and members could donate games to be sold at the store and RFG keeps the income. Reason being, I think a lot of people would be more willing to donate a cart they paid $0.25 for at a garage sale that might sell for $10, instead of the $10 coming out of their pocket.

Well I would throw in the very little that I have after I move.

I like the ebay store idea NES-Rules, the only problem I can see is a integrity issue. RFG would have to rely on the person actually sending out the winning game on behalf of RFG as I would think sending the game to staff would be wasted postage. I don’t know.

We’re going to have incentives to donate. We’ve thought of one already, and we hope to have a few more soon.

The goal is not to have any ads on the site. If we do have to resort to ad-based revenue, donors will not have to experience the ads.

To TraderJake….Thats a good idea, somewhat how my site works also. One other incentive I know I would love to have would be a way to export my Video Game Have list to an Excel Spreadsheet.
